SPECIFICITY IN PHYSICAL TRAINING FOR GOALKEEPERS

From the beginning of football as a sport to the modern game, the Goalkeeper has gained an increasingly fundamental role.

This circumstance caused a change in the views on the modes of training. Physical, technical and tactical tools are sought to achieve a comprehensive training, as specific as possible for the requirements of the position.

As for the physical aspect, and based on the demands of the game, the specific situations in the penalty area are actions of very short duration and high intensity.

Therefore, it is very important to know the physiological demands regarding the electrical and metabolic / energetic, based on the time and intensity of execution of the different actions that occur during a game, to design specific training sessions to fit the Goalkeeper needs.
Thus, we will focus on describing and developing those physical skills, such as strength, which we consider important in stimulating in a Goalkeeper, so that he/she can achieve a good performance in his/her role.
